In VW Team we especially love and focus in 3d environment creation. In this article we try to give you several sources in which our *Members can find really useful tools either free or commercial. The only thing we have to do is play with them until we see which of them could work and benefit our workflow.
We categorized all those tools for easier research and study according to the usage they have in the creation of our environment. So we have four different categories.

Populate Terrain: Optimized terrain generation from contour lines. Retopology of existing triangulated surfaces. Easy to handle quad based geometry.
Terrain Maker: This script was written to speed up working with other packages to create grayscale images to be used as height or displacement maps in max.It lets you change the resolution (detail) and the height of the terrain in max.
Terrain-conformer: This script conforms a terrain surface to a road in just a few click. It's very easy to use.
Top Plane Slice: This tool is usefull for breaking massive terrain objects e.g. for game engines.
Vue: Offers CG professionals the premiere solution for creating exceptionally rich and realistic Digital Nature environments with seamless integration into any production workflow.
World-Machine: Powerful and flexible, World Machine combines procedural terrain creation,simulations of nature, and interactive editing to produce realistic looking terrain quickly and easily.
Planetside: Terragen™ is a powerful solution for rendering and animating realistic natural environments.
Speedtree: a powerful toolkit used to create 3D animated plants and trees for games, animations, visual effects shots, and architectural renderings.
Onyxtree: A cost saving collection of essential tools for a serious CG artist.
Laubwerk: Laubwerk develops easy-to-use 3D plant plugins for architects and CG artists who are looking for a fluent way to insert authentic and detailed 3D plant models into their scenes.
Lenne3d: Lenné3D enables the depiction and use of plants in a virtual environment in order to realistically depict your project.
Atree3d: ATree3D is simple to use 3D plants generator for architectural visualizations. With this script for 3ds max you can create trees, bushes, shrubs, flowers and grass.
Vegetation: This Script allow you to create a ground plant by setting some parameters.
Ivy_generator: The ivy grows from one single root following different forces: a primary growth direction (the weighted average of previous growth directions), a random influence, an adhesion force towards other objects, an up-vector imitating the phototropy of plants, and finally gravity. This simple scheme reveals that the goal was not to provide a biological simulation of growing ivy but rather a simple approach to producing complex and convincing vegetation that adapts to an existing scene. The ivy generator imports and exports obj+mtl files.
Flower Creator: A useful script for scattering and mass-manipulating flowers.
Plant_factory: Author fully custom intricate 3D plant models in concert with your production workflow.
Rock Generator: Procedural rock generator for production and real time environments.
Stone Placement-Tools: This script creates stone walls, quad stones pavements and irregular stone patterns for various uses. It’s suitable for both realtime and production.
Floorgenerator: FloorGenerator is a script for 3dsmax which generates floor objects consisting of individual boards which can easily be textured using MultiTexture.
Rock Maker: A simple and easy to use script for rock's creation.
Vizpark: Creating wall and tile materials was never easier. WALLS & TILES is a very easy-to-use 3ds max material that creates procedural walls and floors based on multiple single bitmaps.
Advanced-painter: A modular brush-based distribution tool.
