Painting Architecture - Interview with Gayarre Infografia.

Working with GAYARRE commit yourself to study in depth the definition of the project and to consider spatially and constructively many of the aspects already defined previously. The crises and internal discussions are opened thanks to its high definition work, they allow progress and continually questioning taken decisions. Certainly, its work complements the architect design process and it becomes a fundamental tool for project development at all levels.

VWTeam.

Hello GI Team! It's a great honor having you here and be a sponsored Studio of VWArtclub. So we would like to know more about you and share your secrets of success with our viewers. Let's start!

So Juan, please let us know what was the reason of creating this studio. Is any “behind the scenes” story that we should know about?

Juan.

Thank you for the introduction and having us on VWArtclub. When I was 16, the mother of my best friend told me that I should dedicate myself to paint. I decided to study architecture and look, finally, I have reached a professional moment in which I paint architecture. She was right.

Despite having developed a few architectural projects, I believe that my true passion was more linked to the artistic expression of the projects. For this reason, I have been able to combine both disciplines for more than 20 years. However, for a time to this part, I have focused solely and exclusively on architectural visualization.

Although I started lonely, GAYARRE infografia would not be able to do what it does if it did not have behind an elite team. César and Pablo are two exceptional professionals and the perfect coordination between us makes possible the results of the company.

VWTeam.

Your studio is currently based in Zaragoza. One of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Is this a vital reason of your success? Do you plan to expand having more studios in Spain or abroad?

Juan.

Thank you for your kind comments on our hometown! We love to live here. After having studied in Barcelona, returning to Zaragoza was a pleasure even though Barcelona is a very cosmopolitan city. I do not think location in our architectural visualization business is a factor that determines success or not. I think we have the great advantage of being able to develop our services without even moving from our study.

We always have in mind the growth of the company but I see more effective an international expansion focused on our city. That is, to grow our team and work for the rest of the world. In the last years, we have developed works for several countries of the European Union and even for the United States.

VWTeam.

After so many years in the visualization industry what is your personal opinion according to new technologies, like VR. Is it a new era that will make things easier or more complicated?

Juan.

Progress is inevitable. However, we need to change generations so that new technologies have the necessary acceptance. Our clients are mostly real estate developers and nowadays their clients  have the purchasing power to buy a property, are not of the generation that enthusiastically receives solutions like virtual reality. They do not feel comfortable using it and that does not benefit the sale. When buyers are the kids that are between 15 and 25 years old today, virtual reality will have its boom time.

At present, technical deficiencies (being connected to cables, graphics without top quality, etc.) make these technologies look like something in development. And when you are going to make the purchase of your life, you do not want to experiment.

Therefore, the buyer, currently, prefers the video and the images. It understands them and that provokes a positive predisposition to the understanding of the benefits of the project and the sale is more feasible and effective.

To summarize: Not now but in a few years sure virtual reality will be part of our lives and our way of saying architecture.

VWTeam.

A demograhic question now. Are you focused in a specific region of having your future clients/projects or you are open to every challenge? For instance we in Middle East, architecture has a different style with ornaments and different guidelines. Do you think that you can visualize and interpreter this style as well?

Juan.

Of course. Throughout more than 25 years of profession, we have visualized thousands of projects and we have never had any problem in that aspect. Our training as architects helps without any doubt. This capacity for spatial understanding transcends styles and geographical areas. That is why we believe that we are able to visualize any project anywhere in the world. I also tell you that this fact does not differentiate us from other visualization studies. I think it can be considered common to all.

VWTeam.

Where do you see Where do you see Gayarre Infografia the next 5 years? Do you have any specific targets?

Juan.

Many years ago an interview was made in parallel to two renowned architects in Spain: Ricardo Bofill and Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oiza. They both asked what projects they had in mind. The first responded that several in Saudi Arabia others in South America and multiple in France. The second replied that his most desired and immediate project was to leave the architecture and dedicate himself to his family. I am closer to that approach.

We still have many things to do. My idea is not really to grow in number of projects and in number of collaborators. I trust more, as we have always bet for quality. For making projects more interesting at all levels both technically, artistically and, why not say, more profitable in economic terms. For this, internationalization is fundamental. That is our goal and we will put all our efforts in the coming years.

VWTeam.

Hi Cesar! What makes you proud of working for GAYARRE Infografia?

Cesar.

The truth is that from my beginnings in GAYARRE infografia, I always had the feeling of being in a place where things are thought to be done in a perfect way. It makes me proud to belong here, that capacity for overcoming, of continuous learning, and of wanting to carry our work to the limit of our abilities.

VWTeam.

We see that you are very talented photographer. Why you choose a 3D career and not being a photographer? Is this just a hobby?

Cesar.

I always liked photography, but only as a hobby. From my studies of interior design, I felt a certain attraction to transfer all my ideas not only to paper, but also to the screen, and the world of 3D and rendering allowed me to be able to translate all those ideas in a way that I could never imagine. It is true that in recent years my passion for photography has grown, but it is more part of my free time than something else.

VWTeam.

Which commercial are you most proud about and why? Did you have more freedom in terms of clients needs or it was closer to your personal style?

Cesar.

The truth is many good works that we have done these years. Some with more freedom, others with less. At the time, although the passage of time does not forgive, especially at a technical level, Alone was one of the works that we feel the most proud of. We were nominated for the CG Architect Awards in 2013 and this was a turning point and positivism, at a time when construction and 3D were in full crisis.

In addition, this work was more adapted to my style, both for its exterior and interior architecture, a little different from the conventional, or what in many occasions, request us the customers.

VWTeam.

And last but not least, hello Pablo! You are the modeling specialist in GAYARRE infografia. Are you self taught and what is your biggest accomplishment in 3d modeling? Are you using just one software or a combination of more than one?

Pablo.

My first contact with 3d modeling was at the university (Industrial Design) where we used Rhinoceros. Then I was driving 3ds Max during some time in a studio of decoration and the last years I used Cinema 4D exclusively, already in the equipment of GAYARRE infografia. Learning has been self-taught for the most part, combined with some course. R&D work has always been a synergy with the whole study team.

My greatest achievement, I would not know which one to choose. Each new project has some difficulty to save. Some models are more complex, like organic furniture and others even being easier have to be simplified to the maximum, as in large house developments, so that the project can be rendered in a reasonable time.

VWTeam.

Do you see any margin of development on your modeling skills, or would you prefer to develop one of your weak points,? If you have one ;) And if yes which one and why?

Pablo.

I think we should always be learning new things, because in this work technology is moving very fast and you can not stay behind. I have many fields yet to move forward in the modeling. In each project we try to improve the previous one, giving a step more in realism and detail.

Of course I have weak points, and I also try to improve them. One of the main problems we face is the immediacy with which things are wanted today. That's why I always look for ways to speed up the modeling process. Sometimes it is cumbersome and slows down the project deadlines. Look for the way to model efficiently. Let it be fast and no problems afterwards in the textured and rendered.

VWTeam.

Would you prefer in GAYARRE infografia having more colleagues and dividing the project in subcategories? Or you think that this would make your workflow more complicated?

Pablo.

Working with a bigger team would make the job faster and perhaps even more quality. But to get to that would have to spend a time to get use to. In GAYARRE infografia we have been working together for more than 12 years and the workflow is very high. Anyway we have collaborated on some projects with bigger work groups and it has always been very good. I do not think there would be any problem.

VWTeam.

Well GI Team! It was a pleasure sharing your time with us.

Hopefully you enjoyed this interview like we did , so in order to end this interview we would like to hear from you Juan, what is your best advise for the newcomers 3d designers and entrepreneurs:

Juan.

Everyone must build their own career path. However, since you ask me, I can think of two tips that will surely work well. For beginners, do not obsess about technique. Turn off your computers and observe nature, take pictures, draw by hand and never stop watching movies of all times. That intellectual exercise of watching and analyzing, you will come great to generate great visualizations.

For the businessman, very short but very difficult: learn to say no. Not everyone is your ideal customer nor you are the ideal company for every client. When you can say no, you get freedom, and that freedom, results in better images, better budgets and a path to feel proud of which will seek you to collaborate.

Bye bye bye!!
