Sometimes the inspiration of a project may comes where we do not expect it! In a similar case this beautiful artwork was born by Adam Zivicky. We liked it at a first glance and we asked him to write a few words about it. Enjoy it!
Hi All, My name is Adam Zivicky and I am from Slovakia. First of all I would like to thanks Vasilis & Vray World for giving me this opportunity.
I have worked in several studios from archviz & product design to TVC production.
This scene was done during my holidays at home because my friend asked me if it is possible to recreate Alcatraz Cells block in a 3d scene to obtain a high resolution image and to be able to print it on his wall. I found this scen very nice and interesting, so I decided to play with it! After two weeks of really lazy work it was finally done.
Thank you Supko :)
Gamma, Input Gamma, Output Gamma : 2,2
There was no worries with the modeling process, simple polygon and spline modeling, due it was only walls, wires and few props which had been done in past.
Generally a simple Vray Sun, with Vray planes in every cell. I also created a variation in cells lights with slightly different hues and some lights turned off. One big Vray plane light along all top windows and some lights at the end of the block.
Here I played with it a bit more... I tried to find some procedural solution with noise and dirt maps. Most of materials are Vray Blend Materials with dirt and dust on a variety of layers.
The final image produced in a high resolution of 4320 x 3240px and the render time was something about 39 hours! I have just divided the render to 5 horizontal parts with regions because I have a computer in my bedroom and the fan is a bit noisy so it is hard to sleep during rendering :)
Rendered on 6cores - 12 threads Intel processor i7 990 xtream, 24Gb of ram
Render passes : AO, Lighting, Reflection, Specular, Wire Color, ZDepth
All parts of image, all render elements I just import to After Effect, changing blending options, opacity,...
FrischLuft for Glow and DOF of file done in AE. Final Colors correction done in PS : a bit of curves and levels
Thank you all for reading and I'm at your disposal for any further information...
Best wishes!
