These images are a personal tribute to the Dutch designer, architect and painter Gerrit Rietveld (that spent his entire life in this city): in 1919 he had joined Theo van Doesburg, Piet Mondrian and other artists to found an art movement called ”De Stijl" (Dutch for "The Style”), also known as Neoplasticism.
De Stijl proposed ultimate simplicity and abstraction, both in architecture and painting, by using only straight horizontal and vertical lines and rectangular forms and primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and the three primary values, black, white, and grey.
In this case for the furnishings, I’ve used analogous colors (yellow and green) as color palette in order to create balance and achieve a serene, idyllic, harmonious feel despite such hard and rigid forms, making them "spatial creations”, sculptures in space rather than a piece of furniture.
